BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Bostonians are grieving the loss of the post 8:00 p.m. sunset.
"It's a depressing thought, if I'm going to be honest. When that calendar turns to August 1st, it always brings a little bit of sadness about the sun and the school year coming," one Bostonian remarked.
Sunday marks the last day residents will see a sunset after 8:00 p.m. for the rest of 2024.
"That's sad. I feel like the summer went too fast," one resident said. "I've already noticed when it in the evening, it's, you know, getting darker lighter and it feels like it's too soon for that."
According to the National Weather Service, starting Monday, all sunsets will happen before 7:59 p.m. and slowly creep toward the earlier side of the day. The milestone is a stark reminder for parents.

"My kids are about to go back to school so I feel like once the day start getting a little shorter and darker early, it's about time for them to go back to school and it's a little depressing," stated one parent.
As the heat advisories are retired for the season and temperatures slowly drop, some residents like Michelle would rather embrace the summer they knew instead of lamenting over what's to come.
"It's been a great summer. Yeah, the weather's been great. Lots of activities. The Red Sox are doing well," Michelle said. "I can't complain at all."
