BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Man's best friend just clocked out on National Take Your Dog to Work Day.
Observed every Friday after Father's Day, the unofficial holiday celebrates the unique bond between owners and their canine companions.
Created as an initiative to promote adoption as an alternative to purchasing dogs by the Pet Sitters International in 1999, the day is used to highlight the benefits of having a furry friend around while you are on the clock.
"I used to freelance a lot with writing and editing and so she was my little buddy then too," says Grace of Malden. "She's a great one. She's the perfect height for petting while I'm sitting down."
Kristina from Melrose thinks adrenaline might take over her bloodhound lab mix before he would officially check in for his shift.
"He's definitely chaotic, especially if I were to take him to the office. He would run around for probably 20 minutes and then he would calm down and settle in."
According to the Harvard Business Review, the presence of pets in the office contributes to a more pleasant and social working environment. Pet friendly environments also facilitate better communication among co-workers, although it is suggested that you check with your boss and co-workers before you bring your furry assistant into the office.
