BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Coming out of the woodworks: a deer was spotted behind a parking lot on Commonwealth and Harvard Avenue in Allston.
“All we’ve got are rats and bunnies,” one resident told WBZ NewsRadio.
A social media user posted a picture of the spontaneous wildlife with a caption “in my nearly 8 years living in Allston, I have NEVER seen a deer here??” The post garnered hundreds of responses.
Several Bostonians agree with the author.
“I’ve lived around here for almost a year and never seen a deer sighting till now,” another Allston resident said.
According to MassWildlife, deer are no strangers to Massachusetts and in the City of Boston, but they mostly avoid downtown areas.
“People should give deer and other wildlife plenty of space no matter where they are seen,” Nicole McSweeney with MassWildlife said in an email.
Additionally, coyote sightings have also been reported in some neighborhoods recently.
“I’m glad it wasn’t a coyote this time,” Benjamin added.
Coyotes are also fairly common, McSweeney said. “The mere presence of a coyote is not cause for concern,” and it’s also a good idea to practice safe social distancing from wildlife.
