WEST ROXBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Ancient relics have a new home in Boston.

Mayor Michelle Wu and other city officials were on hand Wednesday in West Roxbury to officially open Boston’s new and expanded archaeology lab located at the City of Boston Archival Center.

In her remarks, the mayor said the facility includes laboratories, an artifact repository of more than a million artifacts from dozens of ancient and historical sites in Boston, a research library featuring over 2,000 reference books, and archaeological reports. “This new facility cements our archaeology program's standing as one of the best in the nation,” she said.

City Archaeologist Joe Bagley said the public is welcome to visit the new lab space. “We’re really excited that this place gives us the opportunity to make what we do that much more accessible to the public.”
