BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Timing is everything.
And you couldn't ask for a better day to unveil Boston's Frog Pond Spray Pool this year.
It was disappointing last week when bad weather delayed the pool's opening, but its first day on Wednesday comes on the first day of what's expected to be one of the hottest stretches around these parts in a while.
In fact, forecasters are saying the heat wave that's bearing down on the region could feature near or even over triple-digit temperatures for a few days starting on Wednesday.
Grace Burke of Boston's Parks and Recreation Department said you couldn't ask for a better opening day. "Hot weather for today, so it's kind of a perfect way to kick off July," she said.
A ceremony was held to open the Spray Pool.
"It really is a Boston tradition going back so many generations," Burke said. "Because of that, so many people know about it throughout the whole country."
Among the people enjoying the pool on Wednesday were recent Texas transplants Lindsay and her young daughter. "I don't think she's ever splashed in anything this grand before, so I think this will really be a cool experience for her and a very welcoming space for her to cool down in this heat wave."
Boston's Frog Pond Spray Pool on Boston Common is open daily through Labor Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The pool is staffed and supervised by youth workers from the Boston Youth Fund.
