Purple Heart recipient and former U.S. Marine Antonio “Tony” Molina was honored at the breakfast with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

“I think that the Hispanic community must be recognized for all the support in the country, especially veterans,” Molina said. “We are here working hard for the nation; we’re not here asking for gifts.”

Governor Maura Healey was among the speakers who gave credit to those who always answer the call to serve their community.

“It’s more critical than ever that we have diversity in law enforcement, and an ability to better serve our communities across this state,” Healey said.

“That’s what our Latino and Latina officers do, and we are so grateful,” she added.

The Latino Law Enforcement Group of Boston, also known as LLEGO Boston was recognized at the event and received the Community Partner of the Year award.

LLEGO Boston President and Boston Police Sgt. David Hernandez spoke to WBZ NewsRadio about why this event was significant for him.

“I’m super proud to be Latino and to come to an event like this for Latino Heritage Month and support [the community] in whatever way we can,” Hernandez said.
