BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Girl Scout Troops from Camp Cedar Hill in Waltham this week spent a day at Suffolk Construction Company.

It's part of an initiative launched two years ago teaching scouts about the world of construction and the importance of female representation in the industry. It's also a component of Suffolk’s 10-year “Rebuild the Ratio” partnership with Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts.

The goal of that initiative is to increase the percentage of women employed by Suffolk by 10 percentage points over 10 years, a dramatic increase that will provide more jobs for women and boost the percentage of women employees to nearly 40%.

The Girl Scouts visited Suffolk’s Boston headquarters to learn about Suffolk and its projects, much of the information provided by women who work at Suffolk.

The day included an introduction to Suffolk and its projects, a tour of headquarters, a question-and-answer session with Suffolk female leaders, hands-on STEM activities, and the scouts viewed Suffolk’s 10 World Trade project.

All of the Girl Scouts who visited Suffolk were completing the curriculum at camp and will receive their patches once they have finished the program.
