LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A ceremony was underway Thursday morning, celebrating the second phase of rebuilding the Boys & Girls Club of Lynn.
The project costs over $20 million and is multi-phased. A completely new complex will be constructed, connecting to the existing one and providing more opportunities for younger people.
Vice Chair of the Board Brendan Ward said the project has been in the making for some time.
“So we redid the front of the building in phase one, about six years ago, so this is a multi-phase project, we’ve been talking about it for probably close to 10 years,” said Ward. “[We’re adding] additional programming space, two pools, and a kitchen so we can feed the kids.”
Ward was joined by Board President Adriana Moschella, who looked forward to the new opportunities for the youth.
“We’re going to have a new and improved state-of-the-art swimming pool, we’re going to have a whole teen wing, obviously to help the teens get off the street and really get them ready for a career in real life,” said Moschella. “We’re going to have a dance studio; there’s going to be so many features that will really serve the youth in this city.”
Contributions from local foundations and private individuals have been funding the project, and plans are to be fully completed by November of next year.
