BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Despite a crushing loss against South Carolina, Braintree had a loyal pack of fans back home to cheer them on.

The Braintree American Little League team went undefeated this season, earning them a spot in the World Series taking place in Williamsport, PA.

The team, made up of kids ages 10 through 12, played against Irmo, SC. Although the game was away, the hometown fans made sure to show their support.

Places like The Tree Bar and Lounge were packed with fans of all ages, cheering on their local team.

“They achieved what they intended on doing, so they’re in the show,” said Walter, wearing his Braintree jersey from 1969. “Oh yeah, definitely. They got heart, that’s what you need.”

The Tree co-owner, David Ferrando, said the scale of this whole thing is something he has a hard time believing.

“It’s huge, I mean, they don’t realize it’s the whole world,” said Ferrando. “These 12-year-olds are going to play for this town against the whole world.”

Braintree lost the game 13-0 and will play again against Texas on Saturday. The games are double elimination and will last until Aug. 24.
