BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – Rugby will come to Braintree High School for the first time this spring.
“I keep saying ‘we did it,’ and now it’s time to play the sport, which is the best part”
Student Joe Driscoll was the driving force behind the team’s creation. The Braintree senior compelled others to join the team for a sport he always wanted to play.

“I was never like, ‘I want to start a varsity sport,” Driscoll said. “I [just] think I’m good at talking to people.”
After doing his research and crunching all the numbers, Driscoll has helped mark a historic shift in the school’s athletic roster. His convincing plan immediately had the school’s athletic director on board.
“He had a sly deck that was an impressive presentation. He’s intelligent. He has good leadership qualities,” said Director Christopher Coblyn.

“I think [it’s] really cool that we’re going to be the first rugby team at Braintree Highschool,” Driscoll concluded.
