Braintree Nurse Fatally Shot Outside Home

BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — According to Norfolk District Attorney's office, a well-known nurse was shot and killed in the entryway of her home this morning, and her former neighbor has been taken into custody.

At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Norfolk DA Michael Morrissey said Braintree police responded to 64 Howie Road on Wednesday morning following multiple 911 calls.

Officers arrived to find 59-year-old Laurie Melchionda with obvious, multiple injuries. Police said her former neighbor, 61-year-old Robert Bonang, now of Marshfield, was still on scene. Bonang obeyed police and was taken into custody.

Melchionda was rushed to South Shore Hospital but she did not survive her injuries.

Authorities are still investigating what happened outside the home. Bonang will remain in custody overnight and is expected to be virtually arraigned on murder and firearms charges on Thursday.
