BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Friday, a man accused of beating his neighbor to death pleaded not guilty to murder in Brockton District Court

According to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office, 69-year-old Dinis Moreira was brought into custody and ordered held without bail pending a visit to Bridgewater State Hospital for a 20-day evaluation.

Just after midnight Friday, Bridgewater Police received a call on the business line from a family member of Moreira's saying that he arrived to his relative's home on Spring Street to find a woman injured on the floor. Arriving officers say the victim had severe trauma to the head and face.

She was brought to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, where she was later pronounced dead. The victim has since been identified to be 58-year-old Valerie Oakhem. Early investigation from both local and state police suggest that Moreira bludgeoned his Spring Street neighbor to death.
