Bridgewater Mom Helps Cut The Cost Out Of Prom Dresses

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – A Bridgewater mom is helping Massachusetts high schoolers afford the steep price of prom. Julie Costa, of Bridgewater, started Lulu's Prom Closet and Special Occasions Rental with her mom and daughter with the goal of making prom dresses cheaper - or even free.

Costa lets girls rent the dresses for just fifty dollars, and partners with participating schools to allow students to apply for a free dress.

"It's going to be a lending donation. That way, when they're done with their prom, they can pay it forward by returning it," she said.

Costa started the company in memory of her grandmother, Louise.

Costa has received around 350 dresses so far, some from places as far-flung as Alaska and the United Kingdom. She plans to open a storefront in Bridgewater by May.
