BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Brighton resident has turned his living room into a miniature concert hall for any local pianist to perform in.

Aaron Franklin started holding these piano recitals in his home a couple years back after interested neighbors learned he has grand piano.

He began inviting over these neighbors and holding these “tiny concerts,” serving snacks to accompany the music.

About a year ago, Franklin extended the tiny concert experience to the public, putting an open invitation out on Facebook. The invite is open-ended; people can just listen along, or perform for the rest of the group. There's no particular skill level required, and anyone is welcome to play as much or as little as they like.

“I think it's a great way to have people over,” Franklin said.

Since then, the concerts have happened every month or so with just a handful of people each time, but Franklin felt these smaller crowds added to the charm.

“The first one I did was probably the most well attended, I think I had to close to 8 people, he said. “If you don't get the chance to perform a lot, this is a great way to try stuff out on a small audience.”

The audience reactions have been upbeat, with some mentioning their appreciation for being able to perform for an actual audience, regardless of size.

“Most amateurs don't get a chance to play in Symphony Hall, so having four people in attendance is four more people than we usually have in our living rooms,” one guest said.

Even with the smaller size, Franklin said he believes that the music itself is still the same as it would be in a giant concert hall.

“I don't know if it's much different other than having snacks...and being physically closer to the performer, perhaps,” he said.
