BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Volunteers and workers at the Catholic Charities Boston location in Brockton got up bright and early Monday to distribute thousands of Thanksgiving meals to families in need.

People started lining up as early as 7 a.m. to make sure there will be food on the table for their families during the holiday.

President and CEO of Catholic Charities Kelly Tuthill told WBZ NewsRadio that this goes to show the desperate need for these kinds of services in the community.

“When I hear people get up very early even though they don’t have to come get the food distribution, it actually breaks my heart,” she said.

According to Vice President Beth Chambers, the organization already passed out 3,000 turkeys on Saturday in Dorchester. They will deliver nearly 1,500 more on Monday across three different communities.

She credited the hard work from volunteers that make these events happen. Among them is Moses Docanto, the owner of Docanto Electrical.

“We should be doing this year round,” he said. “It’s not just Thanksgiving. It should be year round thing.”
