BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A 16-year-old was shot and killed in Brockton Saturday, the Plymouth District Attorney's office said.

Officials said the boy was shot early Saturday morning, and pronounced dead on the scene at a Sprague Avenue home. Witnesses described a large crowd there for a party before the shooting.

WBZ-TV reported that the teenager killed was Lee Monteiro, a student at Brockton's Champion High School. The station spoke with the teenager's family and his football coach, who described him as enthusiastic and fun-loving, with lots of friends.

State and Brockton Police were actively investigating the shooting, and had released little detail as of Sunday.
