Brockton Furniture Store Helps Those In Need

BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Liam's Home Furniture isn't a typical furnishings store.

Owner Frank Frederick said his business aims to help those in need adorn their homes. The store accepts vouchers and offers interest-free payments.

He told WBZ NewsRadio's Chris Fama he wants to "make people smile [and] put beautiful furniture in their house."

Frederick started the business four years ago after overcoming his own financial struggles.

"I couldn't afford to furnish my home," he said. "You're renting furniture from companies that are knocking on your door every week taking your furniture back, when you couldn't make a payment. Embarrassing you."

Frederick is no stranger to the business. He got his start as a delivery driver for other larger stores.

"I [wanted] to take care of the customers that can't go into those stores," Frederick said.

Frederick said the clientele appreciates what his store does—so much so that they'll bring him food as a thank-you.

"They're bringing us lunch everyday, they're bringing us homemade dinners," Frederick said. "We take care of them like they take care of us, and it's unbelievable."

Liam's has expanded since opening with a new location at the Westgate Mall.

"We went from a 1,200 square foot store to a 32,000 square foot store," he said.
