BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Authorities are investigating another violent incident at Brockton High School.
A school official said two students fighting in the school Monday injured a staff member.
It's not clear what led to the fight, but the official said the students are facing discipline and the injured staff member was evaluated by the school nurse then sent home for the day.
This latest assault comes after members of the Brockton school committee recently called for the National Guard to come to the school and help bolster security.
Governor Healey turned down that request instead promising a state grant to fund a public safety audit of the school.
A staff member at the high school said the school has lost control of its students. "I can't tell you how many kids just walk the hallways all day long and don't even go to a class," he said. Asked what he thinks is causing the violence, he sounded resigned. "I don't know..... I just really don't know," he said. "I'm just somebody who goes there every day and wonders what's going on here."
