Brockton Man Charged With Killing Father In East Bridgewater

BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Brockton man has been charged with killing his 70-year-old father in East Bridgewater Monday night.

Stephen Walcott Jr. pleaded not guilty to beating to beating his father, Stephen Walcott Sr., to death. He has been charged with one count of murder and is being held without bail.

Authorities said they responded to a well-being check at home on Cedar Street in East Bridgewater around 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders said they found Walcott Sr. suffering from apparent head trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors said they saw a person matching Walcott Jr.'s description at the home earlier in the afternoon. Walcott Jr. was placed under arrest when arrived at his Brockton home around 7:30 p.m.

Police said Walcott Jr. and his father had gotten into a verbal argument around 5 p.m. that day. Walcott Jr. allegedly beat his father with his fists, hit him in the back of the head with a dumbbell, and tried to suffocate him.

Walcott Jr.'s next court appearance is set for March 8.
