BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — David Mak Thompson has become the face of basketball for his community.
The Brockton native, who now lives in New Bedford has gone viral across several platforms for his incredible basketball skills.
Thompson said he was often the underdog that was often overlooked.
His persistence for the sport has led him to great success; some highlights in his viral career so far include being featured on ESPN and SportsCenter, receiving over 7 million views on his first video on Facebook, and getting brand deals with basketball-related merchandise.

The 32-year-old includes a comedic twist in his videos while he performs fancy dribbling techniques.
In the first viral video, that exploded in November 2020, Thompson is playing basketball at Ash Street Playground in Brockton.
From October to June, he gained over 115,000 followers on Instagram. On TikTok, Thompson has over 170,000 followers and over 2 million total likes.
Thompson told WBZ NewsRadio's Matt Shearer that some big stars have reached out to him. Professional basketball players such as Montrezl Harrell and Nate Robinson have messaged him along with actor Samuel L. Jackson, who follows his Instagram account.
He said he hopes his story as the underdog inspires others to never give up and to keep doing whatever they love.
