BROOKLINE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Officials in Brookline want to know about your close calls on the road.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, almost 100,000 motor vehicle accidents happened across the state in 2024. The BrooklineCAN Livable Advocacy Committee is doing its part by attempting to evaluate potential collisions between motorized modes of transportation and pedestrians and cyclists. Delaney of Brookline said she has personal experience on the subject.
"I also work at the hospital, and we've had a lot of people getting hit by cars in this area."

Since there is no official mechanism to measure or document the issue, the town is asking residents to complete an online survey to document their near-collision experiences. The survey includes questions about your relationship to Brookline, your form of transportation, location, and the time the incident occurred.
"Yeah, I think that would be helpful, Delaney said. "I mean, I wonder if it could just be like video camera evidence or something, but definitely, it's probably more frequent than actual collisions."
The Department of Public Works says that mere seconds are the difference between a near miss and a crash. The survey will focus on identifying potential problem areas and patterns in Brookline Village and Washington Square.
