BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Conan O’ Brien will host the 2025 Oscars.
The Brookline native was announced as emcee by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Friday. The 97th Academy Awards will air March 2, 2025 on ABC.
“America demanded it, and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars,” O’Brien joked.
The Emmy-Award winning comedian, writer, and producer has never had the gig before, though he’s hosted the Emmy Awards in 2002 and 2006.
“He is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of film with his brilliant humor, his love of movies, and his live TV expertise,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang in a press release.
O’Brien is taking over for fellow comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the last two ceremonies, and also hosted in 2017 and 2018.
Getting his start writing for “The Simpsons” and “Saturday Night Live,” he went on to host NBC’s “Late Night” for over a decade, had a brief stint hosting “The Tonight Show,” and went on to host his last late-night talk show “Conan” until 2021.
“Conan is a preeminent comedic voice whose decades-long success is marked by his distinctive humor and perspective,” said Craig Erwich, Disney Television Group president. “He joins an iconic roster of comedy greats who have served in this role, and we are so lucky to have him center stage for the Oscars.”
