Brookline PD Provide Extra Security At Temples After Suspicious Incident

BROOKLINE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Brookline Police increased their presence at local Jewish temples and other Jewish institutions after a security guard reported a suspicious encounter to the police.

The incident happened early Saturday morning at an unidentified Jewish temple in Brookline. Police said in a post to Facebook that a man approached the temple's plainclothes security guard and begin asking questions about the number of members and "if anyone can just walk in off the street".

When the man noticed he was talking to a security guard, he immediately left the area, according to Brookline Police. Following the encounter, the security guard called the police. Brookline Police searched the area but were unable to locate the person the security guard spoke with.

Brookline Police said in a Facebook post that in response to the incident, they notified all Jewish institutions in the town about the incident and provided increased security at all locations out of an abundance of caution.

"In these times, it is important to say something if you see something," Brookline Police wrote in a statement. "We hope you always know, we are here for you."

This incident comes a week after a gunman took hostages at a synagogue in Texas in a standoff that lasted for nearly 10 hours.
