BROOKLINE Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Changes could soon be coming to the Brookline Police Department as body cameras are reportedly going to become a new requirement for police officers in Brookline.

Officers are set to test the technology soon, but it's unclear when the exact start date will be, according to Brookline News.

Brookline Police Chief Jennifer Paster told the paper that she is in support of using body cameras, and said that transparency is important. WBZ NewsRadio has reached out to her for comment.

Some who live and work in Brookline see this initiative as a positive step forward for the department and a path towards better accountability for law enforcement in the town.

“It will actually benefit the police more than anything else, because unfortunately a lot of people make false accusations against the police, and the body cameras have the ability to clear that up,” said one resident.

“I think it would be good! I think [that] when an incident happens that we have a recording instead of witness reports,” said another resident.
