BROOKLINE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Residents in Brookline have been invited to fill out a community survey surrounding the launch of a new program that is designed to eliminate food waste in the community.

The program is set to launch in the summer of 2024, and the Brookline Department of Public Works wants to hear from residents as to where they would prefer to drop off their food waste across the community. Residents who participate in the program will be eligible to enter raffles and win prizes from local Brookline businesses.

“This program is a part of Brookline’s ongoing effort to increase access to composting and divert waste away from incineration. Composting is meant to help increase soil health, decrease the volume of food waste, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions from waste incineration,” said Brookline DPW in a statement.

Brookline residents will not be charged to participate in the program, and because of limited supply, businesses will not be allowed to participate.
