BROOKLINE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Brookline's meter parking rates will increase for the first time in eight years this spring.

New meter rates will be 75 cents higher than previous rates, raising the most common price to two dollars per hour.

Currently, the town's meter parking rates range from 75 cents per hour to two dollars per hour. Most meters are set at $1.25 per hour.

"The rate of $2 per hour aligns with the parking meter rates around the Town of Brookline, including adjacent neighborhoods such as Cleveland Circle, Commonwealth Avenue, Allston, and the Longwood Medical Area," town officials said in a press release.

Brookline's street parking rates have not increased since 2016.

The town planned to make street parking more expensive in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic sidelined the project.

Officials estimate the new rates will yield $1.4 million in revenue. The town said it will put that money toward replacing antiquated meters.
