MILTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A familiar face brought some serious hardware to Milton for a good cause Thursday.

Former Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy spent his day with the Stanley Cup in Milton for an event with the Cassidy Murray Foundation. The organization honors the life of Murray, who died in a boating accident in Aruba last year.

Attendees at the event got a chance to take a picture with Cassidy and the Stanley Cup. Cassidy, who won the Stanley Cup with the Vegas Golden Knights in June, said he wanted to help support the family's mission—his daughters were friends with Murray.

"We just wanted to do our part to create a little awareness for the foundation and hopefully raise a little money so we can help some families that may have to through this in the future," Cassidy said.

The new foundation aims to work with parents who have lost children to get services like therapy, something Dave Murray, Cassidy's father, said was vital to him and his family after losing Cassidy.

"Our mission is to help other people like ourselves who get thrust into such grief by losing a child and not knowing what to do," he said. "[Our therapist] has been fantastic for us. I don't know what we would have done without her. We want to help people get that because unfortunately it's hard to get therapists and when you do get one they're expensive."
