TEWKSBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Bruins and charity group March of Dimes threw a baby shower for military moms on Sunday.

The event was held at the Tewksbury Country Club, where the wives and girlfriends of Bruins players and coaches surprised the expecting moms with new baby items.

"We're here honoring these families. They make the ultimate sacrifice for our country every day for our freedom. And we're here just to honor them and help them as they begin to transition into motherhood and grow their families," Kelly Backes, the wife of Bruins center David Backes, said.

Each mom at the event received a gift basket filled with baby items and a stroller.
