SAUGUS, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) A large brush fire was reported along Route 1 in Saugus Wednesday night, burning near homes and businesses. The fire was still burning as of Thursday morning.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, much of the state is in severe drought conditions, including the North Shore and extending to central Massachusetts.

The Boston area has only experienced 10 days of precipitation this fall, with no sign of significant rainfall until at least Monday.

Dozens of wildfires have been reported around the state recently, and the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services reported that 200 wildfires were reported in October alone, when the state usually experiences around 15 that month.

Firefighters also responded to a brushfire near Franklin Park in Roxbury Wednesday night, deploying a drone to watch over the blaze.

Boston Police say three males were throwing items, possibly rocks, at the drone. The suspects were identified as Jason Levoy, Augusto Bussio, and Thomas Mullikas, who were all arrested.

The three are expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on charges of trespassing and disorderly conduct.
