MILTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — One of the many brush fires in Massachusetts at the Blue Hills Reservation has closed two major roads in Milton.

Fire crews closed Chickatawtbut Road and Hillside Street, which has caused delays for people who work in the area.

“Everyone’s coming off the highway and there’s like five stop signs you have to go through, so [it] jams things up,” said Cedric from South Boston.

Cedric had to go all the way around [the reservation] to get to his job on a farm, which doubled his normal commute time from the city.

[The commute] is about 35 minutes on a good day without the closures, but I’m guessing with the closures it’s about 50 minutes to an hour,” Cedric added.

He said that the smoke in the area can make it difficult to work outside.

WBZ NewsRadio also spoke to Chuck, who said that the fires have caused problems at one local post office.

“We haven’t had any mail for over three days,” Chuck said.

Fire officials said that the 41-acre blaze is about 70 percent contained, but they don’t think that this rain will put out the larger fires raging across the state, but it may limit new fires from starting.

WBZ NewsRadio has reached out to the Postal Service for more details.
