BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston University men’s hockey team advances to the NCAA Championship for the first time in ten years.

“I’m really optimistic that they’re going to be able to pull it off,” one excited Terrier fan told WBZ NewsRadio.

The last time the team played in the national title game was in 2015, and the last time they won a trophy was 16 years ago. This year, BU will be vying for its sixth national title, taking on Western Michigan University.

“It’s such a big game,” another fan said. “Everyone talks about the culture that the school is building around athletics.”

Entering the semifinals Thursday night, the Terriers bested Penn State 3-1 in St. Louis, MO with an all-time best record of 49-40-0.

This is also the third season for head coach Jay Pandolfo, BU alum and Burlington native.

“I can only imagine what it would be like if we could, it’s going to be crazy,” one BU student added.

Puck drop for the Frozen Four Championship is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
