NEWBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Essex County District Attorney's Office and the Newbury Police Department have identified the victim found dead in an apparent drowning in Newbury Thursday evening.

Authorities said a man was seen entangled in the brush in the Parker River, in the area of Forest and River streets. A witness attempted to reach the man, but was unable to do so because of the strong current, said police.

State and local crews responded to the scene and recovered the body of David Harwood, 54, of Byfield, from the water, officials said.

Newbury police said they do not suspect foul play at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
