FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Patriots released quarterback Cam Newton on Tuesday ahead of the NFL's final roster cut deadline.
Newton joined the team last year, leading the team to seven wins with a 65.8% completion percentage, eight passing touchdowns, and 2657 total yards.
The move comes ahead of the NFL's cut down deadline on Tuesday, when teams will need to cut down their teams to 53 players by 4:00 PM.
Rookie quarterback Mac Jones is now the team's presumptive starter, as the two players were engaged in a quarterback battle throughout most of the preseason.
