CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Music spilled down onto the streets as Cambridge's inaugural Porchfest kicked off in Central Square.

The free community event allowed Cambridge residents to host local talent at their homes. Singers like Ceili Cordero with BEAT NIK performed on porches, patios, or even backyards, allowing attendees to embrace the music while exploring the neighborhoods.

"We just had such a fun time. And so many people came out, which I wasn't really sure what to expect, but it really filled up and we had a blast," said Cordero.

Following in the footsteps of Somerville, which has hosted its own Porchfest for more than two decades, many residents hope the DIY community event will leave a lasting impact on the city.

"Somerville has all these cool community events, and I'm glad to see Cambridge stepping up their game a little bit," one attendee remarked.

The Cambridge Arts Council provided the financial backing for the Cambridge Neighborhood Association to launch the inaugural festival with a grant. Attendees were pleased with the start of Porchfest and said they were excited for Day 2 on Sunday.

"Honestly, if this is the kind of quality that it's going to be at this Porch Fest, I love it, and I'm going to try to find some other bands this weekend," one local said.
