A Cambridge man is biking to 92 Dunkin’ locations around Boston on Friday to raise awareness for multiple sclerosis.
Adam Bigelow started before dawn in East Boston at the Dunkin’ on Bennington Street, with a crowd of supporters in tow.
“I think some munchkins are gonna keep me energized, but just the excitement of what’s going on is also gonna be pretty cool,” Bigelow said.
His girlfriend, Lily Fenton, was diagnosed with MS last year. He’s doing a fundraising ride later this month, but said he wanted to do something fun to raise even more money.
“There’s nothing more Boston than Dunkin so here I am,” Bigelow said.
June 6, National Donut Day, seemed like the perfect time to do it. He promoted the ride on his Instagram and created a fundraising page, which also tracks his progress on the route.
Dunkin’ provided Bigelow with over $1,000 in gift cards, which he’s giving out to the first 50 people who spot him on Friday, or to anyone who donates $5. For those who donate $20 or more, he’s got some special Dunkin’ swag to give out, too.
“I initially set a goal of $3,000 but I’ve already passed that, so every extra dollar helps. It’s been really amazing to see the outpouring of support,” Bigelow said.
Hitting nearly 100 Dunkin’s in one day might seem like a big feat, but Fenton said he’s done similar stunts before, like riding to every Taco Bell in Rhode Island, for example.
Fenton and Bigelow’s friends plan to cheer him on throughout the route, snapping a photo at every spot.
“He’s like the most supportive partner anyone could ask for, and he’s doing an incredible job,” Fenton said. “We have a lot more to go, but morale is high”
