Cambridge Police Issue Apology For Tweet About Rep. Joe Kennedy III

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) —The Cambridge Police Department has apologized for a profane tweet sent by an officer on the department's Twitter account that criticized Congressman Joe Kennedy.

The tweet, sent Sunday afternoon in response to a question about Kennedy from WCVB-TV, read: "Another liberal (expletive) jerk who just happens to be better then the clown he's running against. Sad for us."

The officer deleted his tweet once he realized he didn't send it from his personal account, police spokesman Jeremy Warnick told The Boston Globe. Warnick did not identify the officer.

The department apologized for the officer's message in a series of tweets sent Sunday evening, calling it "inappropriate, unprofessional and disrespectful."

The department also announced it would “take appropriate action in response to this regrettable incident,” although it didn’t specify what it would do.

The department was also attempting to get in contact with Kennedy to speak further with him about the incident, Warnick said.

Kennedy could not immediately be reached for comment, The Globe said.
