CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police in Cambridge are looking for information about a suspect who is possibly leaving thumbtacks on bike lanes after several cyclists reported popped tires near Inman Square.

One cyclist found around 20 thumbtacks placed upright on a stretch of the bike path on Hampshire Street near Inman Square. And while an investigation is ongoing, some people are upset someone may be intentionally sabotaging the bike lane.

"I mean, I just don't understand what the point of that is," one cyclist said.

For the many commuters who bike through Cambridge, getting a flat tire is a nightmare.

"That would be pretty awful. I would not know how to get to work. I would probably have to walk my bike home and then call an Uber to work, so probably be late to work," another cyclist said.

The path appears to be tack-free for now, but commuters are worried, considering popping a tire at this time of year is a real inconvenience.

"It could take anywhere from like half an hour to like 45 minutes to replace one, so it's not something you want to do when it's like really cold out. And yeah, it's not cheap," one biker said.

Police are looking into the issue and are asking anyone who may have had their tires popped to reached out.
