BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A local jewelry company has been creating bracelets from some of the eight million tons of plastic that ends up in the ocean each year.
"The product's made of 100 percent recycled ocean plastic, and then the entire package you get is 100 percent recycled," Cape Clasp owner Patrick Clark told WBZ NewsRadio's Jeff Brown.
The bracelets are called Tikós, from the Greek word meaning "to shape or mold behavior."
They come in four colors, and carry motivating phrases such as "skip the straw," "clean the coast," "bring the bag," and "keep the cup."
"Each of the bracelets comes with the challenge to prevent more plastic from entering the ocean," Clark said.
Portions of Cape Clasp proceeds are always donated to a marine life organization, and the company has donated $35,000 to non-profit partners over the last two years.
