BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It was a game for the ages at the TD Garden yesterday as the Boston Celtics punched their ticket to the NBA Eastern Conference Finals for the second consecutive year with a blow-out win over the Philadelphia 76ers 112-88.
Jayson Tatum led the way with a record-breaking 51 points, the most ever scored in a playoff 7th game. Tatum’s 51 points broke Stephen Curry’s 50 points set just two weeks ago.
One game after missing 14 of his first 15 shots but awakening in the 4th quarter to guide the Celtics to a Game 6 victory, Tatum started hot and finished hotter in Game 7 also pulling down 13 rebounds.
Celtics fans answered Jaylen Brown’s challenge to come out energized and loud for the Mother’s Day matinee.
The game also drew celebrities including Robert Kraft, Julian Edelman, and Mathew Slater from the Patriots, Donnie Wahlberg, and Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy with his mother.
Outside the Garden after the game, Celtics fans were flying high.
Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Celtics-Heat, starts Wednesday night at the TD Garden at 8:30.
