BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A commemorative piece of Celtics history was on display at the Prudential Center.

The Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy was the prize awarded to the team for coming out victorious in the 2024 NBA championships, and fans could view it up close and take a picture too.

The unique viewing and photo opportunity was part of a promotion effort by View Boston.

Some visitors were pleasantly surprised by the spectacle.

“It was exciting; I didn’t even know it was happening. I walked by on the way to work and saw the signs, so I hopped on over,” one man said.

Others seemed to be preparing for this special opportunity by dressing for the occasion. One man wore a custom Celtics bathrobe and sneakers and balanced an unlit cigar in his mouth.

“So, I put my name on [the robe], and I got the shoes that they won the championship with and put my name on that,” he said.

“I was like, you know what? I got to rock this for the picture,” he added.

Jim Davis, Director of Sales and Marketing at View Boston, said this was a unique opportunity for Celtics fans young and old to interact with the trophy.

“Usually, it goes to private events, so we’re thrilled to work with them and offer the city of Boston the chance to see the trophy and get pictures with it,” Davis told WBZ NewsRadio.

This young Celtics fan was thrilled to be there and take in the moment.

“I’m excited, I’m going down to Philly to watch the Celtics vs. 76’ers game on Thursday,” he said.

According to their website, the trophy was on display from 10 am to 2 pm on Tuesday at the entrance to the View Boston Observation Deck.
