BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Basketball Partners L.L.C, the ownership group behind the Boston Celtics, announced on Monday that they have decided to sell all shares of the team.
Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck, who owns the franchise, decided to sell the team for estate and family planning considerations.

WBZ NewsRadio spoke to Celtics fans about this news, and many felt that the decision to sell doesn't add up after a championship season.
“If it’s a way of [saying] “we’re going out on top, then I guess that’s what they want to do,” one fan said.
“It makes no sense, you’re doing great, and you want to sell it? Why sell it?” said another fan.
This update comes after Monday’s announcement by the Celtics that they reached agreements with star forward Jayson Tatum and point guard Derrick White for contract renewals, both worth over $100 million, according to the NBA.
This comes on the heels of the Celtics defeating the Dallas Mavericks 4-1 to win the 2024 NBA Finals. This was the 18th championship win for the team, the most in NBA franchise history.
