BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Bostonians are hoping another championship parade is on the horizon.
The Boston Celtics capped off the regular season with a 93-86 win over the Charlotte Hornets at TD Garden. With a record of 61-21, the team secured the second seed in the Eastern Conference and finished with the third-best record in the league.
“I know a lot of our players are resting for the playoffs, which I think is a good sign, but I think I’m really excited to see what we do in the first round,” said one fan.
The Celtics will face the winner of Tuesday night's game between the Atlanta Hawks and the Orlando Magic in the first round. Outside TD Garden on Sunday, fans said they expect another deep playoff run this year.
“The Celtics are going to win the championship again,” said one young fan.
Fans were still excited to see the team play on Sunday, even though six of their top players did not play. Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday and Al Horford were all ruled out due to injuries, while Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis rested for the playoffs.
“Keep everybody healthy and keep the rhythm going into the playoffs,” said another fan.
If the Celtics win the championship, they will become the first team to win back-to-back titles since the Golden State Warriors did it in 2017 and 2018. The first playoff game is set for Sunday, April 20, at TD Garden.
