WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Clark University is hiring a coach, but not for the sport you might think. It's not football, baseball, or basketball Nicholas "Shifty" Travis is into, but the competitive gaming world of esports.

Travis grew up gaming with his brother, and turned aside from his degree in economics to coach esports.

"I felt it was more important to do something that was going to make me happy more so than make me a little richer," he said.

Travis said he tried to finish his last job strong at Becker College last semester, helping the school win two championships in two different video games before it permanently closed. He said the students were able to handle the school's closure by taking their emotions and channeling it into their gaming.

"A lot of teams have a lot of promise but fall apart because they didn't have any objective viewpoints to really tell them what was going wrong," he said.

Travis said he's asking himself what he would have wanted out of an esports program in college to help steer the esports teams at Clark this upcoming year.
