WEYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A redevelopment project is now underway in Weymouth’s Jackson Square neighborhood after years of planning.
The city approved the new development plans in 2023. The new Jackson Square will have four mixed used buildings that include 200 residential units.
The plans also call for 12,000 square feet of commercial and restaurant space, The Patriot Ledger reported.
The project was proposed by local restauranteur Eric Papachristos, who bought The Venetian in Weymouth in 2019.
He’s also known for Boston restaurants Saloniki Greek, Porto, Trade and La Padrona, the latter of which made the New York Times’ 2025 list of the 50 best restaurants in the country.
Some residents had mixed feelings about the new development.
“Some of the locals whose families have been here for generations, they like it the way it is,” said Lisa, a longtime Weymouth resident.
“It’s a monstrous development that’s going to looming over our small single family houses,” said another local resident.
Other residents seemed to be on board with the plans.
“There are people out there that need housing,” said another local resident.
The construction will be in four phases, and the first phase is expected to take between 12 and 18 months, The Patriot Ledger reported.
