Cheers Bar At Faneuil Hall Marketplace To Close

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Cheers bar at Faneuil Hall Marketplace will close on August 30 after nearly 20 years of operation.

The owner of the bar said it is closing because the landlord is refusing to forgive rent when the establishment was closed during the four-month pandemic shutdown from March to June.

Operating at only 20 percent capacity due to COVID-19 restrictions also made it difficult to raise profits.

Cheers Faneuil Hall opened in August 2001 and featured a replica of the bar seen in the acclaimed television sitcom Cheers.

The original Cheers location at Beacon Hill, which served as inspiration for the show, will remain open.
