BROOKLINE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Cheryl-Anns' Bakery, a popular kosher and pareve bakery in Brookline, reopened to much fanfare Friday.

Founded in 1985, Cheryl-Anns' became beloved for its challah, babka, rugelach, and other tasty goods. When a fire forced the bakery to close in December 2021, customers felt the loss.

"We’d been coming here probably for over 30 years, and after the fire it was kinda devastating that we had no place to go, or at least we really felt we had no place to go," one customer told WBZ NewsRadio. "This was home."

"I was getting challahs at BJ’s, which is certainly not anywhere near like Cheryl-Anns'," another customer said.

After posting repair updates on its Facebook page for more than two years, Cheryl-Anns' announced it would be back open for business starting 7 a.m. Friday morning.

"Every few months, I would check in and they were like, 'It’s coming, it’s coming,'" one woman said. "And then this week, it finally came."

There was a line out the door all morning as customers flocked to the reopened shop, leaving with their hands full and, in some cases, going back for seconds.

"Typically I buy two of them," said Mark, who could not wait to dig into his challah. "One I munch on in the car on the way home and the other one gets home, because if I only bought one, it would never get home."

Along with its Brookline location at 1010 W. Roxbury Pkwy, Cheryl-Ann's also sells its products in grocery stores around Massachusetts.
