Chlorine Shortage Threatening Private Pools In Mass. This Season

PEABODY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — If you own a pool at home, one local store has a word of advice:

"Get out and get your chlorine now," said Chris Tibbets of Budget Pools in Peabody. The pool shop now has to ration its chlorine this season, after running out of some sizes of the chlorine tablets.

"We've already run out of 50 pound chlorine tabs, and thirty-fives...we're down to limiting people to one bucket of twenty-fives," said Tibbets. A large fire at a chlorine plant in Louisiana last summer is part of the problem.

The pandemic has also contributed to gaps in the supply chain.

Tibbets said supply is so low, his store could be completely sold out in a few weeks.
