Cinco de Mayo Means a Busy Day for Mexican Restaurants

MEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Cinco de Mayo means a busier day than usual for authentic Mexican restaurants.

"Today is a very very very busy day," said Andrés Sandoval, the owner of Tenoch Mexican in Medford. "Cinco de Mayo is a very popular party here in the United States."

The holiday celebrates the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It is also often erroneously thought to be Mexican Independence Day, but that holiday actually falls on September 16.

"All the people, they choose to eat Mexican food this day, so basically all the Mexican restaurant is [sic] going to be very busy," Sandoval continued.
