NATICK, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The former Sacred Heart Church in Natick has sat vacant for years, but a circus training and acrobat school could soon fill it with life again.
Jacob Skeffington co-founded Eastern Acrobatics and Circus, which has been running out of a gym in Ashland for five years, and said the church will fit his school's needs to a T.
"They're almost purpose-built for it, with the vaulted ceiling," he said. Skeffington has a long history in the circus, discovering acrobatics at age 13 and spending time in Cirque de Soleil.
He said the demand for circus activities are increasing, especially as a form of exercise.
"The use of circus as a sort of alternative fitness activity is really increasing. There's just really something for everyone in the circus," he said.
The school hopes final permits are approved on the building by this summer, according to the MetroWest Daily News.
