BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An intersection in the City of Brockton is gaining the attention of the public, as it's been the site of 72 crashes within the last five years.

The four-way intersection of Belmont Street, Belmont Avenue, and Manomet Street is considered one of the most dangerous in Brockton, so much so that it's garnered a city initiative to install a traffic signal, though some residents think more should be done.

WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe spoke to a few concerned citizens that say people just need to slow down there.

"People don't know how to slow down. I've seen a couple where people had to go out in an ambulance because people don't know how to slow down," said Christina, who's an employee at a convenience store on the corner.

Christina said that a working traffic light may not solve all of the problems either.

"It's going to back up traffic even more going in all four directions, we have school buses that hold up traffic anyways when they have to," Christina said.

Though other residents disagreed, saying that a light would do wonders and reduce the number of crashes happening at Belmont and Manomet.

WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe (@KimWBZ) reports.
